Good WIL Dialogue – Pre-Placement WIL Student Support

This presentation provides an overview of the Student Pastoral Care Code that went into effect this year and academic institutions’ responsibility to support students while they are in their WIL placement. It provides processes for helping students to self-identify the support needs they might have, using a self-disclosure process, and then triaging with different kinds of support. For some students they just need a reminder of their responsibilities, for some their disclosure will affect the kind of placement provided, and for some they need to make a plan for how to take care of themselves and alert their placement about their needs. This presentation highlights that academic institutions have a duty of care to support students during their WIL placement and provides insights of how to provide such assistance.
